About Cornbrook Creative

Cornbrook Creative is a federation of artists, designers & makers, creative technologists, media producers and curators based in Talbot Mill, Manchester.

Our practice connects us with many curious elements in the cultural, technical and social matrix – some subtle, some strident – and finds us equally at home in the ebullient flux of the public realm, the rigours of passioned debate and the quiet meditation of the craft workshop.

Our artistic work integrates both contemporary fabrication processes and traditional techniques across a range of disciplines within digital, visual & sonic arts, sculpture, engineering and outdoor theatre – producing events, experiences and artefacts to delight and dislocate by turn.

Cornbrook Creative is also excited to offer an eclectic portfolio of opportunities for public participation, creative adventure and community engagement with a new series of collaborative projects – while also supporting the region’s artisan, creative and cultural industries with an array of innovative design, manufacturing and production services.

About Talbot Mill and Capital&Centric

Recently acquired by Capital&Centric – award winning developers who don’t just create buildings; they create places and communities and cultivate cultures – Talbot Mill is a magnificent example of the iconic Victorian mills which have been refuge to Manchester’s vibrant artistic communities for decades.

A Grand Exposition will animate over 10,000 square feet of this building, hosting both a farewell celebration for the Talbot Mill communities and the launch of a new cultural workspace project – ‘FutureSpaces’.

Talbot Mill will open its doors for this unique and one-off event, welcoming the public to enjoy its final batch of ‘manufactures’ amidst the charming remains of its post-industrial heritage, before deconstruction and metamorphosis into a new life as residential dwellings.

About Manchester Science Festival

Produced by the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester Science Festival is a creative, playful and surprising celebration of science taking place across Greater Manchester from Thursday 19th – Sunday 29th October 2017. Launched in 2007 it is now the largest science festival in England and the North’s premiere cultural celebration of all things related to science and innovation.

Dubbed ‘part laboratory, part playground’, the Festival invites over 100,000 visitors to join it at 100+ unique and extraordinary events every year – ranging from art installations and theatre to comedy, debates and workshops.

Past events have seen audiences take a boat ride through an art installation with a particle physicist, build a computer out of dominoes, enter a sleep lab inside a shopping centre and jump in to an adult ball pool.

In 2016 the Festival welcomed a record 136,000 visitors and involved over 1000 scientists, researchers and artists, who created 125 unique experiences in 60 venues across Greater Manchester.

In 2015 the adult ball pool event Jump In! was named Best Special Event at the City Life Awards.

About FutureSpaces

Radical | Analogue | Digital

FutureSpaces is the new construct for Talbot Mill’s artist and maker enterprises, drawing together with outlier trades and neo-industrial artisans to inaugurate a new regional centre for innovation in creative production, providing product development support from research, experiment and prototyping stages through to bespoke and batch manufacture.

Alongside provision of workspace, equipment and technical resources to established creative businesses, FutureSpaces will also nurture the skill development, exchange and learning opportunities necessary for building resilience and dynamic activity in our communities while also instigating and extending collaborative ventures and partnerships across a wide range of agencies, organisations and individuals.

FutureSpaces builds on the historical foundations of collective enterprise and cooperative organisation and plots a trajectory towards a new commonwealth.
